How to Support Your Partner

Watching someone you love in pain is never easy. couple-in-love

You want to help.

You want them to feel better.

You want them to feel better so you can feel better.

But here is the truth and you might not like it.

You aren't in charge of making them feel better.

Trying to cheer them up or replace what they lost usually doesn't work and also sends a message that their pain, sadness and upset don't belong.

And I know this comes from a place of love as well.

But remember to be alive means we will know pain. It's part of the deal and because of that one of the most loving things you can do for your partner who is going through something hard is allow them the space to process their emotions and make sure you don't take on their pain as your own.
